A scarcer type, featuring the family harmony of Nero and his second wife Poppaea. But the idyll was not to last for long, as just over a year following the minting of this coin, the empress, along with her unborn child, was kicked to death by the depraved Nero. Rare appearance of Poppaea on coinage - she is not featured on imperial issues, and only sporadically on colonials - and a decent rendition at that (her bust resembling, in some way, that of another empress of some 17 centuries later - Catherine the Great of Russia)
