Rather neatly broken flan, possibly in antiquity, with most of the interesting design left on the present half. Discernible portraits of Augustus and his early heir apparent (top of head off flan), as well as decent crocodile and palm, on this budget example of a very popular type. Though a strictly local issue, token coinage shortages made this type from Nemausus (modern Nimes in France) widely circulated in the Western provinces of the Empire. Though it is sometimes denominated an "as", there are also opinions that it represents a (double in value) dupondius.
