Somewhat of a mystery variant, for this otherwise attractive issue. The reduced weight, and thin layer of silver (partially discolored or chipped, though relatively nicely toned on obverse) over what appears to be a copper core indicate a plated, fourree issue. These are not uncommon for Republican denarii, except, the references do not mention such a possiblity for this issue. Furthermore, this specific obverse rendition (the two legends reversed positions, and the particular style of Diana) is identified by Sydenham as a product of the "Italian provincial mint", and should be serrated, which of course is not the case here.
