An exposition on Roman ladies might naturally begin with a coin featuring the Roman goddess of beauty and love, shown here with tastefully and richly ornamented head and neck wear. Images of divine personalities were certainly modeled on mortal humans, and in Venus' case it also probably represents a paradigm of beauty as understood at the time. All the more so here, where the cruder style of earlier stock Roma renditions gives way to a late Republican artisic sensibility, which was to carry over into the finest period of Roman Imperial portraiture.
