Mariniana's husband was Valerian I, who despite his ability, is remembered in infamy for his vigorous persecution of Christians, and (perhaps then appropriate) live capture by deceit of a retreating Persian army. However, Mariniana apparently predeceased his accession, as her rare coinage is all of the posthumous type. Interestingly, her few issues all feature peacocks, in three different forms - here in an attractive frontal view with spread tail. |
