An attractive portrait of young Hadrian, from the opening year of his rule, with the full long obverse legend spelling out all his titles, and the customary inaugural message of peace on reverse, along with appropriate honors bestowed upon his recently deceased and popular predecessor and adoptive father. As opposed many other cases of that and later eras, Hadrian's rule generally did live up to these lofty expectations, and continued the tradition of what was later to be considered the "golden century" of Rome's Adoptive Emperors.
