A rare double appearance by Pan in a curious overstrike - interesting in it its own right as a data point for sequencing the various Pantikapaion bronze issues of the 4th c. BC. The later coin type, while available in smaller versions (e.g. see our lot G1720), is seldom found in this size and weight (but see lot G1886 for one example); the undercoin coin type is likewise scarce (cf. our lot G1717). The two Pan renditions, though both beardless, are different - the later having the more "mischievous" appearance with the raised eyebrow.
