Obv: Head of Alexander the Great in crested helmet ornamented with griffin right, Greek legend ALEXANDROU ("of Alexander")
Rev: Alexander on Bucephalus galloping right, with spear and flying mantle, Greek inscription KOINON MAKEDONON NEOK
REFERENCE: LE 1376 var. (horse stepping, legend variation)
GRADING: F+, olive green patina with slight spots of encrustation and verdigris

A scarce and attractive large bronze from the later Roman period, with a finely styled portrait of the great conqueror, who's appearance here is probably as much a nominal homage paid to the celebrated king's birthplace province as it is a suggestive device of wishful 3rd century Roman emperors.
