Interesting mythological type. Of course, sphinx renditions are not common and thus generally are prized on Greek coinage, and the present one displays some sharp detail despite light encrustation problems. The obverse appearance of one of the mysterious and prized for their prophecies Sibyls - Herophile, who had predicted that Helen of Troy would be the ruin of both Asia and Europe - is also appropriate for this small ancient city just a few miles south of ancient Ilion.
